Start with a task your group needs: gathering materials, cooking supplies or completing a bounty. Find 
Avatar Recruitment and 
Town Workshop before spending Silver. You do not need to establish a personal Homestead to begin progressing an Avatar.
Prepare one useful tool
Choose the recipe for the job you intend to do. A 
Flint Knife is a smaller commitment than trying to prepare every tool at once. Check the intermediate ingredients and required station before leaving town.

Carry food and keep equipment organised
Compare the hunger and healing properties of 
Trencher Bread and 
Bloodberry Field Bar, then carry supplies for your planned trip. Inventory drag and drop lets you arrange equipment and move supplies between your character and storage.
Choose the next commitment
Check 
Bounty Board for an objective you can complete with your equipment. When your group is ready to build, start from the materials for 
Homestead Keystone and the structures you actually need rather than committing to an entire settlement at once.
